Booting Up

My system

I started working on a P2-450 with 32M memory, an old 850M drive with a dos partition, and an ne2000 clone pci card. (I copy stuff to it that way) There is a dvd reader in it. (I had one laying around). Oh yes, I have a bootable Gwynux that allows me to connect to a slackware system where I am compiling some of this stuff.

I am now working on VMWARE server with a cd image file. http://www.vmware.com

Booting From CD How to go about getting the CD to boot.

The simplest solution is to boot the cd image.

Booting From Diskette How to boot from diskette if you can't boot from CD.

If you cannot boot the CD, you may have to boot from diskette. Heres how.

Booting Fat or USB How to boot of a usb stick or other FAT filesystem.

You can also boot off a dos/fat partition or USB stick.

Once you boot, you will have a hand full of linux/unix commands provided by a utility called busybox. See the package list for a link to the site. Take a good look at command help under Documentation.
